230 SE 6th Street is located in the heart of Madras, Oregon, a charming, modest, working-person's town founded by Central Oregon farmers and ranchers at the turn of the 20th Century. The town continues to serve its founders' progeny as a regional farm and ranch supply center.
Mt. Jefferson, directly west of Madras, may be called the town's mountain. It and Jefferson County are named for our third president. Madras serves as the Jefferson County Seat. The county's farms, ranches and towns are served by ancient, pure aquifer fed by Mt. Jefferson snow melt.
Forty miles due north of Bend, Madras now attracts commercial, industrial and residential developer attention on account of 21st Century Central Oregon population growth. Central Oregon is now discovered and now an international destination.
Directly adjacent and sensible to the vocanic energy of Bend/Redmond, Madras is distinctly different with its own heritage and vibe. Crossing the Crooked River Gorge one enters broad, productive farmland providing a spectacularly wide vista of Cascade Mountain peaks: Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, The Three Sisters, Mt. Washington, Three Fingered Jack, Mt. Jefferson, and to the north Mt. Hood which rises up from the Columbia River Gorge.

The two duplex units reflect the character and history of the town: two modest, honest, sturdy units created in the mid-70's by dividing a 1950's plain, farm style salt shaker house. The units provide a touch of rustic charm.
The units are simple and practical:
In the winter, heat is important in Madras. Both units boast gas heaters rated for two to three times the units' square footages. The lower two bedroom unit is heated in part by a gas glass-view cast iron stove that provides the living room focal point. The upper one bedroom unit gas heater is new and rated for three times the unit's square footage. Crank on the heat when you get home from work on a cold winter evening and your unit will quite quickly get toasty.
Both units have ample storage. There is a secure, segmented custom made wood storage shed on the property. The downstairs unit has an additional outside storage closet. The upstairs unit also has an additional second storage closet.
Both units' bathrooms are very recently remodeled. The downstairs two bedroom bath has a newly tiled shower/footbath and new fixtures. The upper unit has a claw tooth bath tub and new antique style shower hardware.
The upper unit is approximately 550 sq. feet. The lower unit is approximately 800 sq. feet. The lower unit has washer/dryer hook up.
The large front yard is designated for lower unit resident use. It's surrounded by a custom made seven foot privacy fence. The ample sized side courtyard is also seven foot custom fenced. It's designated for the upper unit resident use.
Both units are accessed through a shared locked gate. A camera security system is planned to provide surveillance of the entire exterior property. Hopefully, it will be in place this winter (2023-24).
Madras is dog country, and people love their cats. Pets are permitted.
Owned, managed and renovated by me, the owner since 2007, the units have undergone extensive repair, renewal and renovations over the years.
The below market unit rent rates are ideal for individuals and young families working towards their goals of homeownership.
The upper one-bedroom unit is perfect for single-person occupancy, while the lower two-bedroom unit with washer/dryer hook-up is well-suited for couples, couples with young child, or single individuals looking for a comfortable and spacious living space.
